Yunus left his people in anger before Allah permitted him to. He boarded a laden ship; lots were drawn and he was cast into the sea, where a great fish swallowed him (37:139–142).
In the darkness he called out: "There is no god but You, glory be to You; indeed I was among the wrongdoers" (21:87). Allah saved him and cast him onto the shore. His people believed, and they were the only people whose faith, on seeing the punishment approach, benefited them (10:98).
