Jabal al-Nur and the Cave of Hira

A steep mountain north-east of Makkah. Near its summit is the small Cave of Hira, where the Prophet ﷺ used to seclude himself in worship.

Significance

The first revelation — "Read in the name of your Lord who created" — came to the Prophet ﷺ here, through the angel Jibril.
