Biography

Hamzah, the Prophet’s ﷺ uncle and foster-brother, accepted Islam after hearing that Abu Jahl had insulted his nephew, and his strength protected the Muslims.

He fought heroically at Badr and was martyred at Uhud in 3 AH by Wahshi’s spear, and the Prophet ﷺ grieved deeply for him.

• Wahshi later described how he killed Hamzah at Uhud — and how he himself later became Muslim.
