Biography
Ibn ʿAbbas, the Prophet’s ﷺ cousin, was about thirteen when the Prophet ﷺ died. He then sought knowledge relentlessly from the senior Companions, waiting at their doors.
He became the foremost authority on tafsir, and ʿUmar included him among the elders of Badr in council. He died in Taʾif in 68 AH.
Virtues
The Prophet ﷺ embraced him and prayed: “O Allah, teach him the Book.”
