Biography
Saʿd was a maternal relative of the Prophet ﷺ who accepted Islam at about seventeen. His mother tried to force him to leave Islam; he stayed firm while honouring her — the occasion connected with 31:15.
An expert archer, he defended the Prophet ﷺ at Uhud. Later he commanded the Muslims at al-Qadisiyyah and founded Kufah. He was the last of the Ten to die, around 55 AH.
Virtues
At Uhud the Prophet ﷺ said to him, “Shoot — may my father and mother be your ransom”; ʿAli said he never heard him say this to anyone else.
