Biography
Abu ʿUbaydah was known for humility, honesty and gentleness. He emigrated to Abyssinia and Madinah, and at Uhud he pulled the rings of the helmet from the Prophet’s ﷺ face with his teeth.
He led the Muslim armies in Syria under ʿUmar and lived austerely as a commander. He died in the plague of ʿAmwas in 18 AH.
