Biography
Khalid was a brilliant commander of Quraysh whose manoeuvre at Uhud turned the battle against the Muslims. He accepted Islam in 8 AH.
At Muʾtah he took the banner after three commanders fell and brought the army back safely. He led the Muslims in great battles under Abu Bakr and ʿUmar, including al-Yarmuk, and died in Hims in 21 AH.
Virtues
Of Muʾtah the Prophet ﷺ said the banner was taken by “a sword from the swords of Allah”, and Allah granted victory.
