Biography
Umm Salamah and her husband Abu Salamah emigrated to Abyssinia and then to Madinah, where she was separated from her husband and child for a time before reaching them. After Abu Salamah died of his wounds, the Prophet ﷺ married her.
She was wise and learned: at Hudaybiyyah she advised the Prophet ﷺ to shave his head first, and the Companions followed. She narrated many hadith and was the last of the Mothers of the Believers to die, around 61 AH.
Virtues
She narrated the supplication for calamity — “We belong to Allah and to Him we return; O Allah, reward me in my affliction and replace it with something better” — which she said when Abu Salamah died, and Allah gave her the Prophet ﷺ.
