Biography
Zayd was taken as a slave as a child and given to Khadijah, who gave him to the Prophet ﷺ. When his father came to ransom him, he chose to stay with the Prophet ﷺ, who freed him.
He was among the first to believe and led several expeditions. He was martyred as the first commander at Muʾtah in 8 AH.
Virtues
He is the only Companion mentioned by name in the Quran (33:37).
Quran 33:37When people criticised the leadership of his son Usamah, the Prophet ﷺ said they had criticised his father before, and that he was worthy of leadership.
