Surah Yusuf tells his story in full — "the best of stories" (12:3). As a boy he dreamt of eleven stars, the sun and the moon prostrating to him. His jealous brothers threw him into a well; travellers found him and sold him in Egypt.
In the house of the minister he resisted seduction, choosing prison over sin. In prison he interpreted dreams and called his fellow prisoners to Tawhid. Interpreting the king's dream of seven fat and seven lean cows, he was appointed over the storehouses of the land.
During the famine his brothers came to Egypt. In the end he revealed himself, forgave them — "No blame on you today" (12:92) — and his family came to Egypt, fulfilling his childhood dream.
